Start with meditation
Making changes and improving your life can be incredibly difficult. Whether it’s losing weight, getting active or cutting something out, we will always be met with resistance. It’s a safe bet that all of us will fail to reach a personal goal at some point, and it doesn’t feel good.
Although this whole site is effectively set up to help with this, there’s something I’d like to introduce here that can lead you to an easy win.
Start with something easy. Something you can use to create an effective habit. Something you can use as a foundation to build up the harder things. Our willpower is finite, so we have to be very careful.
A great example of how change can go wrong is the way a lot of people approach New Year’s resolutions. They usually create a long, imposing list of difficult things to do. Then, at an extremely cold and dark time of year and immediately after a time of indulgence, they try to draw on an immense reservoir of willpower.
The problem is, they will usually spread themselves too thin. They will fail, and when it’s clear that one of these ambitions won’t happen, the rest tend to fall like dominoes. It can be hard to deal with and even harder to bounce back from.
That’s why I suggest you start with something easy. One thing, and your actual goal here is to make sure it sticks. I suggest meditation. It’s one of the easiest things to do and you should start to feel the difference immediately. All you need to do is set aside ten minutes a day. If that’s difficult, you could even start at five.
The aim is simple. Do this for 21 days.
If it doesn’t happen one day, just make sure you get back to it. Don’t beat yourself up. Accept what has happened and move forward.
I suggest you try this. Although it takes time to really benefit from the practice, as your mind will inevitably wander, it’s pretty much painless. There’s no physical exertion or after-effects. It just takes ten minutes of your day, or less.
When you’ve formed this habit and created a routine, you can look at the other things. Building this has given you a foundation you can work from. You’ll know you can do it and the rest should follow.
Good luck.
