The horizon

Throughout history, our species has always been drawn to what’s over the horizon. We’ve crossed oceans and even ventured into space. It was never easy though. Despite the risks and the huge logistical challenges, we persevered. We explored and we discovered.

We didn’t give in to fear and stayed safe and comfortable. We embraced the challenge and we grew. We found new things and pushed everything that was possible even further. There were probably dreams involved as well. That magical speculation of what might be uncovered.

So the question, what’s over your horizon?

What do you see and what prevents you from getting there? Maybe those swirling, seemingly endless oceans aren’t as impenetrable as you think. Maybe it’s easier to do that thing or take that leap than you think.

Imagine those new lands, those new possibilities. That sea, that barrier is usually your comfort zone. That place where everything is familiar, where you’re not challenged.

This is a place that rarely leads us to incredible things. All those amazing discoveries throughout history didn’t just fall into the lives of those explorers. They had to be found. Challenges and fears had to be overcome.

That’s how we grow. That’s how we connect with the incredible.

There is another side to this though, and it’s important. The people who discovered these amazing new places didn’t just take blind, impulsive leaps. They made plans and they had clear visions of what success looked like.

A quote from Zig Ziglar comes to mind. “People do not wander around and then find themselves at the top of Mount Everest.”

Have a think about all of this. It could help you take a step over your horizon.

Finally, it’s important to note that each of us will have our own challenges. There’s no scale and no order. To some, just going somewhere different or starting a conversation with a stranger will be a considerable challenge. To others, overcoming health issues may literally mean taking a few steps or just starting a journey to recovery.

We’re all different, so we should celebrate all our big achievements. Whatever they look like. Finally, that question again. What’s over your horizon?
